Brass Tags

Ideal For Harsh Environments or Lending a Striking Appearance

Product Image

MPC’s brass tags are a popular choice for both industrial and decorative applications due to their durability and striking appearance. Brass tags can be polished to a mirror-like finish or given a slightly brushed satin finish. A robust and malleable metal, brass performs well in indoor and outdoor environments. Brass tags offer excellent resistance to corrosion, saltwater, tarnish, chemicals and solvents, and extreme temperatures. Brass is a low-friction metal that won’t generate sparks, so it’s also commonly used in applications involving explosive elements for added safety.

Brass tags can be screen printed with graphics and copy or chemically etched, either with or without a color-fill.  Due to their limited UV resistance, color graphics will gradually degrade over long periods of exposure to sunlight; therefore, brass tags with color graphics are not recommended for long-term outdoor applications.

Benefits of Brass Tags

Brass is often chosen as a tag substrate thanks to its distinctive look compared to other metal substrates, such as stainless steel or aluminum. With a characteristic golden hue, brass tags can be polished for a smooth, mirror-like finish or given a slightly brushed satin finish. Brass is an affordable metal substrate, and it can be printed or engraved with text and graphics. While some customers choose brass tags due to their striking appearance, others opt for brass tags for their durability or other characteristics. Here are a few of the benefits of brass tags:

  • Decorative and functional. Brass tags have a distinctive golden color that’s aesthetically pleasing, while also offering the durability to withstand a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions. This combination of a decorative look and durability makes brass tags ideal for applications in which appearance matters but readability and durability are essential.
  • Corrosion, saltwater, and temperature resistance. Brass tags offer excellent resistance to corrosion, saltwater, chemicals and solvents, and extreme temperatures, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and in applications where exposure to water or other liquids is likely. Brass is a softer metal compared to some substrate options, such as Metalphoto®, and therefore are prone to marks from abrasion. For applications in which abrasion is likely, Metalphoto tags may be a more suitable option.

Common Uses for Brass Tags

Brass tags are used in a variety of commercial, industrial, and consumer applications thanks to their versatility and durability.

Brass tags are an ideal choice when a visually appealing tag is desired for applications in which the tag may be exposed to saltwater or extreme temperatures. Here are a few common applications in which brass tags are often used:

  • Electrical applications. Brass is a unique substrate material in that it will not generate a spark, so it’s often used in electrical applications as well as applications where explosive elements are present.
  • High heat applications. Brass tags have excellent resistance to extreme temperatures, so they’re often used to identify assets in applications where high heat exposure is likely.
  • Marine environments. Brass offers excellent resistance to saltwater and corrosion, making them an ideal substrate material for marine applications and other applications where exposure to water or moisture is likely, such as the plumbing industry.
